A nice piece of Irish provincial silver, this sugar bowl is in the typical three-footed Irish design. It was made in Cork by the partnership of John and Samuel Nicholson. They were in partnership between 1775 and 1797. Decorated in the neo-classical style with festoons and flowers, it is a bit different than typical due to its mask head feet. It is in good overall condition, one leg is slightly pressed in.
Stamped 'STERLING' and 'JSN' (maker's mark a little rubbed).
It measures 13cm in diameter and weighs 208 grams.
