The majority of silver made by foreign silversmiths in Georgian and Early Victorian India appears to have been made in Calcutta or Madras. But there were English/European silversmiths working in other major cities, such as Thomas Mathies and James Barron working in Bombay. Mathies had arrived in India in 1815 and was apprenticed by George Gordon in Madras.
This fork made by the partnership is in good condition, but there is some wear to the tines. Good clear set of the pseudo hallmarks used by Mathies and Barron.
It measures just over 20cm long and weighs 63 grams.
