One of the most remarkable London silversmiths, William Comyns established his company at the end of 1858, after finishing his apprenticeship with George J. Richards. He bought the premises of Robert Tagg on 2 Carlisle Street, Soho, London, where he entered his first mark (W.C into a four tipped oval) in 1859.

The firm, which had become famous for its fine Victorian and Edwardian decorative silver pieces, expanded rapidly and bought new premises on Beak Street and Regent Street. In 1885 William's sons Charles and Richard joined the company and its name was changed to William Comyns & Sons. This heart shaped vanity mirror is an attractive piece of their work. It was made in London in 1892. It is in good overall condition, there is some wear and staining to the back but it stands well. Also some small scratches to the front.

Hallmarked to front.

It measures 26cm high.
