Fancy-backs (spoons where a decoration is added to the back of the bowl) are a collecting area in their own right. They are mostly commonly found on teaspoons and were popular in the 1760s-70s. This is a hanoverian tablespoon example with a shell decoration. It was made in London in the late 1760s, the maker's mark is unreadable. It has a monogram 'K' on it and is good overall condition (there is one slight nick to the bowl and the shell pattern is a little worn).
Hallmarked to base of stem.
It measures 21cm long and weighs 66 grams.
